Zim joins the world in commemorating International Day of Education
Harare- ZIMBABWE has joined the world in commemorating the International Day of Education, Express Mail Zim can report.
This year’s commemorations are running under the theme ”To invest in people, prioritize education’
According to statistics released by UNESCO ,at least 244 million children and youths are out of school,and 771 million adults are illiterate .
“The right to education of these people is being violated and it is unacceptable.Its time to transform education,” declared UNESCO.
Zimbabwe is touted to be amongst the highly literate countries with ZimStat showing a 93.7percent literacy rate in 2022.
President Mnangagwa is on record promising free education for all in the year 2023,a development that will bolster the aforementioned literacy rate .
However, teachers have been on endless strikes citing poor renumeration and incapacitation forcing learners to spend days out of school
The country has also been a victim of brain drain in all sectors mainly health, engineering and education sector.
Several Zimbabweans head many big international organizations after graduating from local tertiary institutions.
