Zanu PF youth league lambast Chivhayo, describes him as a “malcontent”
His association with various political figures (as shown in several images) both from the ruling party and the opposition, has also raised eyebrows and led to further scrutiny of his motives and intentions
Harare- Zanu PF youth league has taken a dig at businessman Wicknel Chivhayo and decribed him as a “malcontent”.
The attack on Chivhayo follows the leak of audio recordings on social media purpotedly by him claiming to have ‘captured’ President Mnangagwa with a firm grip.
In a statement released Wednesday, the youth league secretary for information and publicity lambasted Chivhayo.
“The Youth League has noted with serious concern the malicious, unfounded and scandalous utterances by Mr Wicknell Chivhayo widely circulated in the social media. His mischievous claims purporting to be very close to His Excellency the President Cde Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa are unfortunate and regrettable,” partly read the statement.
The source of his wealth was also questioned and authorities were asked to investigate, a development which might see Chivhayo being caught offside.
“Whilst the Youth League appreciates donations that Mr Chivhayo has been giving to the members of our society, in his own capacity as an ordinary citizen, and, although we do not know the source of his income, let it be firmly known that as the vanguard of ZANU PF we will not just sit and watch the name of our most revered leader being tarnished by such malcontents for their own self-aggrandizement.
“Our President has an open-door policy which must never be abused. We have realized that Mr Wicknell Chivhayo has abused his access to the leadership. Let it be known by whoever concemed that our tried and tested leader is a statesman of the highest caliber and integrity,” further reads the statement.
Chivhayo’s claims have rattled government and received wide condenmation.
In one of the audios, the ex-convict belittles his colleagues and fellow businessmen Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu saying that he is now at a higher level than them.
In a bid to sanitise his mess,Chivhayo issued a statement where he claimed that the audios where ‘deep fake’ manufactured by Chimombe and Mpofu.
However Artificial Intelligence experts poured cold water on the claims and said that the audios were not manipulated and the background sound of ‘Tildah Live’ added weight to the argument.
Chivhayo’s credibility and loyalty are also being questioned, and his attempt to deflect blame by claiming the audios were manipulated seems to have not convinced experts or the public.
His association with various political figures (as shown in several images) both from the ruling party and the opposition, has also raised eyebrows and led to further scrutiny of his motives and intentions.
“Wicknel blows with the wind and he is only loyal to money not any individual.
“In the First Republic ,he would dine with Grace (Mugabe) in Dubai .
“He has a way to position himself to the levers of power but now his careless statements have exposed him to the jaws of a crocodile,” said Tawanda Nyamukapa, a political science student.
