Harare- EMOTIONS flared at the recently held Zimbabwe Women In Business (Zuwb) business luncheon and awards ceremony recently held in the capital.
The fully subscribed event was held at city hotel and was marked with glitz and glamour as several young business women converged to share nuggets, with some of those who won literally shedding tears of joy.
The event was a brainchild of entrepreneur Primrose January and those who walked away with accolades said it was just a bonus but the networking was the major score!
” Well, winning is a bonus but the reason I attended this business luncheon was to network and have a cross pollination of ideas with like minded businesswomen both young and old ,” said one of the winners.
January said the event was principally meant to recognize hardworking young businesswomen and motivate them.
“Our aim was to motivate hardworking young businesswomen through recognising their contribution to the economy.
“We believe a lot of talent goes unnoticed and we also wanted to create a hub and platform where young women in business could interact and exchange notes
“We were overwhelmed by the response and we want to organize a much bigger stage where we invite the older generation of men and women in business who have been there and done that to impart knowledge to us,” said January.
Among the winners was socialite Jackie Ngarande through his philanthropic organisation Jackie Ngarande Foundation, florist Yolanda Moyo, Nyembezi Murengwa of Nyembezi Kitchenware, Faith Candy Cosmetics, Paidamoyo Maringwa among others.
Lately, young women have been championing business empowerment programmes to quash the notion that women should be housewives and January took it upon herself to complement the Second Republic’s efforts to empower both young men and women in line with the National Development Strategy 1(NDS1) .
To give credence to this assertion, a lot of Young Young Women have become regional business leaders with former Ecocash boss Natalie Jabangwe easily coming into mind.
