Waverly Blankets boss Vico acquitted

Harare- WAVERLY Blankets and Plastics boss Aaron Vico has been acquitted of the fraud charges leveled against him by family members over the way he assumed ownership of the company.

Harare regional magistrate Taurai Manuwere upholding an application for exception acquitted Vico of the fraud charges held against him.

Manuwere agreed that the facts on the charge sheet did not show Vico had committed any offence.

The complainants were sisters Amanda Berkowitz and Belynda Halfon who had roped in a private prosecutor Charles Warara into the trial, then later changed to Tendai Biti’s law firm.

The sisters were accusing Vico of fraudulently assuming ownership of Waverley. They had approached the court seeking to set aside the allotment of shares that gave Vico power to take over Waverly.

Vico denied the allegations and through his lawyer Admire Rubaya filed his application for exception, saying the charges he was facing did not disclose an offence.
Manuwere agreed and ruled in favour of Vico finding no offence and that Vico was not guilty.
