War veteran Blessed Geza expelled from ZANU PF: Chinamasa

Harare – The ruling ZANU PF Party has expelled war veteran, Blessed Geza from the party with immediate effect for calling for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to step down, the party’s secretary for Legal Affairs, Patrick Chinamasa announced on Thursday.
Geza, was expelled for undermining the authority of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and putting the name of the party into disrepute.
Geza and some war veterans in the past weeks held several press conferences calling on Mnangagwa to step down accusing the veteran leader of failing to run the country.
“The politburo endorsed recommendations from the National Disciplinary Committee that Blessed Geza should be expelled from ZANU PF with immediate effect,” Chinamasa said while flanked by ZANU PF national Political Commissar, Munyaradzi Machacha.
“Comrade Geza was disloyal to the party.”
Chinamasa said the National Disciplinary Committee of ZANU PF made the decision to expel Geza.
The ZANU PF disciplinary committee is made up of chairperson, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, Chinamasa, Legal Affairs Secretary, Secretary for National Security, Lovemore Matuke, Secretary for Youth Affairs, Tino Machakaire, Secretary for War Veterans, Douglas Mahiya and four other Central Committee members.
The ruling ZANU PF party also fired other party activists that include Benjamin Ganyiwa, MP for Gutu East, Godwin Gomwe, Kudakwashe Gopo, Victor Manungo, Spencer Mutero and Edson Vingwa among others for undermining the party, causing factionalism and dividing the party,Chinamasa said.
Several other party members were suspended, these include Kudakwashe Damson, Lameck Chimanyiwa, Charles Matsika, Blessing Kambumu and Nicole Mutasa, among others.
Chinamasa said the expulsions and suspensions were done to bring discipline within the party.
He said party supporters and officials must use the correct channels for any grievances.
Chinamasa said ZANU PF will soon have a social media policy after accusing some party supporters of abusing WhatsApp, Facebook , X and other platforms to cause divisions and factionalism with the party.
A ZANU PF conference last year resolved to extend President Mnangagwa’s tenure to 2030. Mnangagwa’s current five year term ends in 2028.
The resolution has caused divisions within the party with some war veterans like Geza calling for Mnangagwa to step down.
