The potential of fisheries and aquaculture

The potential of fisheries and aquaculture cannot be underated as it can grow to US1bn sector henceforth contributing to local economic growth.
Permanent Secretary in the ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries and Water and Rural development Obert Jiri officially opened th two day fisheries and acquaculture policy in Harare yesterday.
” This sector can grow to a1bn sector which is an immense contribution towards the achievement of our overall US10 billion agricultural sector by 2030.
Fisheries and aquaculture remain key to Zimbabwe economy, providin food security , livehood and economic opportunities for many communities”.
Fish production has grown from around 14 000tonnes annually to the current 18 000 tonnes.
Zim established the fisheries and aquaculture resources department in 2021after the government realised its potential to immensely contribute to agriculture.
