The late former VP’s body arrives today
Harare – The body of the late former Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko will arrive in the country from India on Thursday, the government has said.
“Please be advised that the body of the Late Former Vice President, Cde Phelekela Mphoko, will land at R.G.Mugabe International Airport tomorrow at 17:00 hrs,” the government said.
“The body is expected to depart to Bulawayo on Friday at 0900hrs.”
Mphoko died last week aged 84 and was declared a national hero by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
No burial date has been set as yet.
Flags are flying half-mast across the country as sign of respect to the departed veteran liberation war stalwart and former vice president.
Mphoko was a career diplomat who served as Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Russia, South Africa and Austria among other countries before he was elevated to the presidium from 2013 to 2017.
