Teachers, nurses seeth as cops get 400% salary increase

Harare- TEACHERS and nurses are reportedly seething after government turned a blind eye on them and awarded police officers a 400% wage hike.

The adjustment will see the lowest paid cop earning US$250 and ZWL 250 000.

Analysts say the move was deliberate to appease the police ahead of elections.

“The police are used as tools to instill fear to voters so government had to appease them with the salary increase,” said a political analyst who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Teachers and nurses have for long been complaining of incapacitation forcing teachers to conduct illegal extra lessons to augument their meagre salaries while nurses are flocking to the United Kingdom causing a massive brain drain
