Sudanese media professionals complete training on AI and Journalism in Egypt

Cairo:The AfroMedia Initiative for Journalism and Media has successfully concluded a comprehensive three-day training course for Sudanese media professionals and broadcasters residing in Egypt.

The course, aptly named in memory of the late Egyptian journalist Mohamed Mounir, was held under the auspices of Daily News Africa and featured a lineup of distinguished journalism and media experts.

The initiative, founded by anthropology researcher and international activist Hassan Ghazaly, offered the training free of charge.

It aimed to equip participants with modern journalism tools, with a special focus on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in media practices.

Ghazaly highlighted that the course pays tribute to Mohamed Mounir, a journalist known for his dedication to Egypt’s role in Africa and the Global South.

Mounir’s career was marked by his passionate coverage of African affairs and his commitment to journalistic excellence.

The training featured a variety of sessions led by prominent media professionals who include Ahmed Mahmoud, Managing Editor of Ahram Online, investigative journalist Mohamed Magdy Abouzeid trained participants on “Using Artificial Intelligence to Detect Misinformation in Images and Videos.”
Mohamed Al-Mamlouk, Editor-in-Chief of Cairo 24, presented on “The Experience of Using Artificial Intelligence in Journalism.”

The course concluded with key recommendations from participants and trainers, emphasising the need to foster stronger ties between Egyptian and Sudanese communities.
Protection of youth from cultural invasion through heritage-based initiatives and
promotion of cultural identity by integrating local content into educational curricula.

Additionally, the participants highlighted the importance of the AfroMedia Initiative’s continued engagement in Sudan’s media and cultural sectors, especially once the country’s security situation stabilizes.

Founded in February 2021 under the slogan “The Voice of Egypt… The Voice of Africa,” the AfroMedia Initiative aims to enhance journalistic and media cooperation between Egypt and African nations.

It focuses on fostering accurate portrayals of Africa, strengthening ties between African peoples, and training journalists to produce high-quality, culturally relevant content.

Ghazaly reaffirmed the initiative’s commitment to serving as a bridge between Egyptian and African media, ensuring a unified and positive narrative for the continent.

This training marks a significant step forward in fostering collaboration and innovation within African journalism, ensuring that media professionals are well-equipped to tackle modern challenges in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
