Special Presidential investment advisor Tungwarara intensifies the diverse war vet programme in Harare

Harare – President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s special investment advisor, Paul Tungwarara on Tuesday pledged to fulfill war veterans programmes that include borehole drilling, a revolving fund, solar installations and house constructions until all ex-combatants have benefitted.
Dr Paul Tungwarara was speaking when he launched the war veterans fund of US$150 000 in Harare at the ZANU PF headquarters in the capital.
“I will push for this programme until every war veteran benefits. I will pursuade President Mnangagwa until all of this programmes reaches to every war veteran,” Dr Tungwarara said.
“The war veterans programmes will come whether the enemy likes it or not.”
Dr Tungwarara said the war veterans programmes did not start after some war veterans ‘insulted’ President Mnangagwa.
“This programme did not come because someone insulted the president,” he said.
All the 10 provinces across the country have received the initial US$150 000 revolving fund meant for projects for war veterans.
Dr Tungwarara pledges that the fund will eventually reach US$1 million per province by June and war veterans can borrow interest free.
War Veterans leader, Douglas Mahiya urged the veterans of the liberation struggle to embrace the projects by President Mnangagwa through Dr Tungwarara.
“Comrades, we lived for over 40 years, as war veterans without a portfolio in the party. Now we have a portfolio in the party. As war veterans we committed time and life for the independence of this country,” Mahiya said.
“We are disciplined soldiers. Today we have the vision 2030 issue, we don’t compromise of power. We don’t compromise on power. We will do what is neccesary that we can retain power.”
Mahiya said war veterans are now 35 000 or below across the country are struggling to survive.
He said the US $153 pension is not enough urging war veterans to join the presidential projects spearheaded by Dr Tungwarara.
Mahiya proposed to launch a War Veterans Family Trust that will help war veterans access finance to fund projects of their choice.
Mahiya told the war veterans that they are planning to hold a national war veterans’ meeting with President Mnangagwa in the coming weeks were the welfare and issues affecting war veterans will be discussed.
Dr Tungwarara gave US$ 120 each and a food hamper to hundreds war veterans who attended the Harare meeting at ZANU PF headquarters.
