S3x, gold, match-fixing : Litmus test for the judiciary as Henrietta Rushwaya sentence is set for November 10

Harare- ZIMBABWE Miners Federation president Henrietta Rushwaya spent the night in remand Wednesday after the Anti-Corruption Court at the High Court quashed her request to remain on bail pending sentence following her conviction on charges of attempting to snuggle 6kg of gold worth more than US$333 000 to Dubai.

She will be sentenced on November 10.

This development poses as a litmus test for the local justice delivery system against the background that selective justice has been applied on the ‘iron lady’ since 2008.

The expected sentence should reflect the severity of the alleged crime (s) she committed.

This conviction comes as a ‘shock’ and least expected considering the power she yields and strong political connections including a sensual stint in the late Vice President John Msika (read as Msikavanhu)’s office.

Hereunder is a brief chronology of the ‘Iron Lady’ ‘s seemingly enterprising alleged criminal career.

*Between 2007 and 2008 she faced theft charges for stealing money from ZIFA and was tried at the courts in 2008.

*In 2008 Rushwaya tried and failed to secure the ticket to represent Zanu PF in Gutu South in the 29 March 2008 Parliamentary elections

*In February 2008, Henrietta was arrested and charged with attempting to defeat the course of justice after an investigation at the Attorney-General’s Office into questionable circumstances that led to her trial on theft charges being brought forward by two months.

*In January 2011 news broke around the country that Henrietta was having an affair with MDC politician Welshman Ncube.

*Henrietta was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission in February 2012 on allegations of bribery and match-fixing linked to the Asiagate matchfixing scandal. She appeared in court facing 11 counts of concealing transactions from a principal, two counts of fraud and 15 others of bribery involving US$1 million.

*In August 2014, Henrietta was arrested on charges of extorting hundreds of thousands of dollars from Walter Magaya, the leader of Prophetic Healing And Deliverance Ministries.

*In November 2015, pictures of her and popular musician Jah Prayzah went viral as it was rumoured the two were having an affair. The pair however denied the allegations.

*Rushwaya was reported to have had an exploitative sexual relationship with then Manchester City and Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwaru.

*Her cosy pictures with Jah Prayzah in her bedroom also caused a stir, and they both pleaded ‘not guilty’

*According to documented reports, in 2017, when she was ZIFA boss, she allegedly had sexual flings with footie stars Harlington Shereni and Cephas Chimedza.

Knowledge Musona allegedly also fell prey under the guise of a gold deal partnership and the duo was always spotted together in Newlands.

This development (Rushwaya case) becomes the virgin high profile conviction after Loice Matanda-Moyo ‘s take over as the ‘sheriff’ at the anti-graft body Zacc.

A plethora of high profile cases have crumbled exposing the rot in the local judiciary system.
