Retirement: Paradzai Mesi quits alcohol after decades of imbibing
Harare- FIERY sungura musician Paradzai Mesi has found his ‘ Damascene Moment’ and decided to quit alcohol, a few weeks after he expressed his wish to be appointed minister in charge of alcohol (obviously in jest).
The Njerama Boys band leader was on the verge of being laid to rest in the musical cemetery but was given a ‘ressurection’ when he was accused of stealing some groceries from a shop at Kiyawora Farm in Concession.
Isn’t it ironic!
The development led to sympathisers assisting him , including a rented house sponsored by philanthropist and musician Mudiwa Hood at Chief Nyamadzawo area in Seke.
In an interview with Express Mail Zim Monday, Mesi’s manager Andy Jusa said he (Mesi) has decided to quit alcohol after decades of imbibing and public display of affection for the wise waters .
“Mdara vafunga kusiya doro (he has decided to quit alcohol),” said Jusa.
(Please note: He is not related to prolific music producer Jusa Dementor!)
Mesi’s circle of friends opined that he was being trailed by demons and his love of alcohol almost ruined his blossoming music career which made him a household name in the sungura music genre.
Many a sungura music afficianados have likened him to footballer Lionel Messi for his musical prowess.
If he was a footballer, his career will be a mirror of Paul Gascoigne and recently Manchester City star Jack Grelish whose insatiable appetite for alcohol is well documented.
Mesi has made a ‘synergy’ with Jit musician Ba Harare and they seem to have struck the right chords with an explosive show at Padziva Sports Bar in Dzivarasekwa- a joint which has shook the city!
Good post however , I was wondering if you could write a litte more on this subject? I’d be very grateful if you could elaborate a little bit further. Appreciate it!
