Retired footie star Tendai Ndoro’s ex-wife Zinhle opens up on her sangoma calling

Johannesburg: RETIRED footballer Tendai Ndoro’s ex-wife Zinhle Ngwenya has opened up on her intentions of becoming a sangoma (traditional healer).

Ironically, she plays a prophetess role on House of Zwide beamed on top South African television channel e-tv.

She told popular South African media outlet Zimoja that it was not easy for her to accept her calling because of shame and denial.

“Like any other young person, at first I was in denial and ashamed. Then when I started getting sick out of the blue, I knew it was something serious, but we had no clue what was happening to me,” said Zinhle Ngwenya.

While in denial she enrolled for a degree in nursing and went on with her studies at medical school where she was trained as a midwife. Zinhle Ngwenya said some times she would go blind because she denied her calling.

“I was still in denial until weird things started happening to me. I’ll prepare for a holiday trip, book my flight, and then out of nowhere, I’d be blind. After cancelling the trip, my eyesight would be restored,” she told ZiMoja.

When she eventually accepted her calling as a sangoma, Zinhle Ngwenya went to the initiation school (ukuthwasa) in Mozambique at a place called Mamboni. While in Mozambique, she went through spiritual and herbal training.

Ngwenya denied using juju against her ex-husband and former Orlando Pirates footballer Tendai Ndoro. After their divorce, Ndoro had a string of misfortunes and ended up retiring from football.

Zinhle Ngwenya said she is not bitter that things did not work out between her and Ndoro. She said she does not misuse her power to get back at people.

“My child has always been my priority and I’m not bitter. I don’t misuse my powers to get back at people,” she adds.

Ngwenya said while her calling as a sangoma keeps her busy, she has no intention to quit acting.
