Recognising the Privileges We Often Overlook

By CATHERINE MUROMBEDZI

As I watched this small boy collecting waste to recycle at a soccer match, I was struck by the harsh realities of life. While many of us complain about minor inconveniences, there are countless individuals facing unimaginable challenges.

Take a moment to acknowledge the privileges you often take for granted:

Being born into a family that can provide for your basic needs
Having access to quality education and healthcare
Enjoying travel and choice
Living in a safe and stable environment

These privileges are not inherent rights, but rather circumstances that have been afforded to us. It’s essential we recognise and appreciate them.

Let us shift our focus from complaining about what we don’t have to being grateful for what we do. By doing so, we can cultivate empathy, understanding, and a deeper appreciation for the world around us.
Let us spread awareness and encourage others to recognise their privileges.
