Prison officer shoots self-dead while on duty
the officer was assigned to guard Justice Chatukuta's house and turned an AK 47 rifle on himself
Harare_ A Correctional Services Officer under the CPU section took his life using an AK47 rifle while on duty guarding Justice Chatukuta’s residence on Christmas Day, Express Mail Zim can report.
According to an internal memo gleaned by Express Mail Zim,the incident occurred around 5.45 am Wednesday .
The deceased was identified as Correctional Officer Grade 1 (Co1) Agreement Ndlera and the matter was reported at ZRP Marlborough under RRB 6264217.
The memo read:
“On December 25, at about 0600hrs a telephone report was received by Chief Supt Mukombachoto to the effect that on the same day about 0545hrs at Justice Chatukuta’s place of residence,
Co1 Ndhlera Agreement of CPU section took his life using AK 47 rifle whilst he was on guard duty in the company of 2939175E Co1 Dziripi E also of CPU section at Justice Chatukuta’s place of residence in Marlborough.”
Circumstances are that Co1 Ndhlela was on duty with colleague Col Dziripi at Justice Chatukuta’s place of residence in Marlborough and Ndhlera grabbed an AK rifle which was on the table in the guard room and bolted out inside the security wall about 20mitres from the guard room.

He stopped and corked the AK rifle with his leg and sensing danger, his colleague Dziripi jumped the precast wall to the next house taking cover where he then heard gunshots and peeped through and saw Ndhlela’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood.
Sources said a few hours before the fatal shooting, the deceased had long phone calls with his mother and wife giving rise to suspicion of a domestic dispute.
