Police Officers Implicated & Arrested For Quest Financial Services Robbery

On Tuesday, three police officers were apprehended, while three others remain at large, following accusations that they divided among themselves the US$22,000 they had recovered during an investigation.

The situation unfolded when Cornellius Chimukange and Nesbert Kachungwe, employees of JP Security, reportedly stumbled upon US$53,000 dropped by fleeing armed robbers at Quest Financial Services in Belgravia, Harare.

Subsequently, six police officers allegedly retrieved the money from the two security guards.

Chimukange and Kachungwe were arrested and subsequently confessed in court to collecting the money and distributing it amongst themselves. They were each sentenced to two years in prison on charges of theft. The duo informed the court that they had purchased various assets with the money before being apprehended by the six police officers, who recovered the remaining US$22,000.

Upon the recovery of the funds during the investigation, Detective Sergeant Since Asima (38) from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Traffic, Constable Perseverance Chisango (32) from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Southerton, and Constable Weston Muzoriwa (37) from ZRP Dombotombo allegedly divided the money among themselves.

Asima, Chisango, and Muzoriwa were arrested and are scheduled to appear before the Harare Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Constable Paradzai Matubu from ZRP Bindura Rural, Constable Fredrick Moyo, and Constable Prosper Chimbumu, both from ZRP Harare Central, are currently evading capture.
