Police intercept fire-arms at Beitbridge Border Post

The guns were stashed in a coffin and cops got wind of the attempted smuggling

Beitbridge-BORDER police have intercepted a consignment of fire-arms stashed in a coffin in repatriation of a Chivi – bound corpse, Express Mail Zim has been told.

According to sources the incident occured Sunday and the undisclosed number of fire-arms where chobed in a compartment located beneath the coffin.

Acting on a rip-off, the detectives ambushed the gang at Port Health Authority bay in the border town.

Finer details were not yet availed at the time of writing but the development gives credence to the claims that there is massive ‘importation’ of the gun culture by South African based Zimbabweans, at a time the ZRP is making a massive crackdown and championing gun control.

National police spokesperson was not immediately available.

Lately, gun-related crime has become a major concern, particularly in urban areas like Harare and Bulawayo.
The likes of George Timozo who were on the wanted list were captured by the vigilance ZRP.

Last week gunmen targeted 22 Catholic Churches and over the weekend Mukuru.Com was robbed of USD20 000 in Gweru.
