Poetic justice : Motorbike robbers injured in crash during high speed chase

Harare-. POETIC justice played out on two robbers who sustained serious injuries in a road accident that occured while they fled justice Sunday, Express Mail Zim can report.

The menacing duo armed themselves with knives and terrorized residents using the motorbike as their getaway vehicle .
They mainly targeted women and snatched handbags and cellphones at knifepoint before making good their escape using the motorbike.

However,on Sunday all hell broke loose after they snatched a handbag from an unidentified woman at Newlands shopping centre in the watchful eyes of a vigilant citizen who gave chase.

In a bid to evade citizen arrest, the rider encroached into oncoming traffic lane and rammed into a Mercedes Benz.

” There was a high speed chase from Newlands and the accident occured corner Samora Machel Avenue and Chapman Road .
“Their bike flipped and threw them a couple of meters away ,” narrated an eyewitness.

Visuals of the suspected robbers went viral on social media Monday and one of them is heard on the phone telling the person on the other end of the line that he was badly injured.

“Taita accident nemotorbike,gumbo rangu radambuka (We were involved in an accident with the bike and I broke my leg,” bellowed the suspected robbers in pain.

Police details from Highlands police station swiftly rushed to the scene.

They were found in possession of knives, two teaser guns and five cellphones believed to be part of the loot .

Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi was not immediately available for comment at the time of writing.

Lately, communities on the northern Surburbs have set neighbourhood watch committees but robbers seem to be working in cahoots with maids and gardeners who give them tip offs of how to circumvent security.

“It is no fluke that robbers target houses where the occupants keep cash or Jewellery and go straight to where it is kept without any hustle to search.

“Logically, it means they are inside jobs with Intel coming from persons familiar with the surroundings of the targeted houses or individuals and maids and gardeners are becoming the chief culprits,” said a former CID officer who stays in Highlands.
