Only 60% of Zimbabwe’s Registered Automobiles are License Compliant

Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) CEO Mr. Nkosinathi Ncube has disclosed that only 60 percent of the approximately 1.2 million registered vehicles in the country are adhering to licensing requirements.

In his operational report covering the period from January 1 to December 31, 2023, Mr. Ncube stated that out of the total vehicle registrations, approximately 800,000 vehicles, or 60 percent, maintain regular license compliance.

On average, between 135,000 and 150,000 vehicles were licensed each month throughout the previous year.

In terms of revenue, Zinara reported gross road fee collections of $868 million in 2023, exceeding the budget by 13 percent.

This revenue was generated primarily from tolling points across the country, contributing 38 percent, while licensing fees accounted for 34 percent, up from 30 percent in 2022.

Fuel levies made up 15 percent of the revenue, with transit fees contributing 11 percent.

Overall, traffic volumes through the main revenue streams experienced an average growth of seven percent compared to the previous year.
