Noic underfire for ill treatment of tanker drivers
Currently there are no Zimra seals so drivers can spend more than five days at a place where there are no toilets
Harare- National Oil Infrastructure Company of Zimbabwe (NOIC) is underfire for allegedly ill treating tanker drivers at the Msasa Depot, Express Zim can report.
The drivers are subjected to inhumane treatment and confined for days in parking bays with no ablution facilities, water or catering services.
“The situation on the tanker drivers at the Noic depot is bad.
” What happens is once you get into the depot you are not allowed to go out until the load has been processed.
“So now there are no Zimra seals so drivers can spend more than five days at a place where there are no toilets.
” They end up defacating in the surrounding fields.
“Imagine grown men using the bush system in 2024.
” All complaints fall on deaf ears and authorities do not care, “said Cde Doctor an official from Truckdrivers4ED.
” These drivers are economy movers and those in offices must learn to respect them, ” he said.
” We are fighting for 115 tanker drivers to be removed from NOIC indefinite ban dating back to 2015.
” Zimbabwean children are being put under indefinite economic sanctions in their own country.
” Its painful and you must appreciate that most of these Drivers have Class 2 Drivers License as their only qualification and source of livelihood, ” he added.
Efforts to get comment from NOIC officials hit a snag as they were unavailable at the time of writing.
Noic’s role is to develop and maintain adequate infrastructure for pumping, storage and loading of fuel.
