Mutare nurse nabbed for selling Vinyu without a liquor licence
Mutare- A female Mutare nurse Angela Gara (54) was sentenced to pay a fine of US$105 or one month in prison for contravention of the Liquor Licence Act, writes Express Mail Zim.
The Weirmouth Park based nurse who works as a nurse at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital was waylaid by the CID Drugs crack team at her house where the Vinyu was discovered.
Vinyu is a locally manufactured alcoholic drink that is mainly popular in Chimanimani and Vhumbunu areas in Manicaland.
The nurse was arraigned at Mutare Magistrates Court answer to charges of selling liquor without a valid licence.
It is alleged that on December 1 2024 , the detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics in Manicaland received information to the effect Gara was selling and distributing liquor using her vehicle a Toyota Ipsum.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority, the cops acted on a tip off, and raided Gara’ house and discovered a 25l itres plastic full of vinyu beer which the nurse surrendered it
to them.
It had a street value of US$20.
She is set to appear at a disciplinary hearing with the Nurses Council of Zimbabwe.
