Mnangagwa warns Ministers who abscond cabinet meetings

Harare, State House – President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Tuesday fired a salvo at some government Ministers who have intimately. developed a habit to wantonly abscond cabinet meetings,Express Maildescribing Zim csn report.
His Excellence described such behaviour as “worrisome.”
Mnangagwa raised his concerns when he was addressing Ministers in the last cabinet meeting of the year 2024 that was held at State House in Harare.
“The worrisome tendency by Ministers and senior officials to absent themselves from meetings is untenable,” Mnangagwa said.
“In some cases, junior officials are delegated to attend and merely ‘bench-warm’ the meetings. This culture is tantamount to dereliction of duty.”
Without getting into exact details or shaming the Ministers, Mnangagwa decried absenteeism and late submission of vital documents which delay government business.
“In the 2025 Calendar Year, the Chief Secretary is directed to strictly monitor individual attendance and ensure that errant Ministers and officials toe the line or risk dire consequences. Ministers should remain mindful that cabinet business takes precedence over all other business,” Mnangagwa said.
Mnangagwa also decried that Zimbabwe government ministries’ websites were not active and in some cases not up to date.

An analyst said te civil servants in IT department. just fart on the chairs and abuse the internet browsing Xrated websites since most of thwm areyouhg and restless graduates who are underpaid.
“It is a misnomer that with the abundant ICTs skills and capacities among young people, our government has only a few functional and up-to-date Ministry websites. More should be done to improve this situation,” he said.
“The digital technology revolution, is the cornerstone of modernisation, industrialisation and efficient service delivery to drive sustainable economic growth.”
However,Mnangagwa said cabinet generally performed well this year with “improved quality of memoranda submitted to Cabinet.”
