Mnangagwa faces citizen arrest in US

New York – PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa faces citizen arrest in the United States as protesting diasporans have threatened to besiege his residency in New York, Express Mail Zim can report.

Mnangagwa arrived in New York Tuesday and joined other Heads of State at the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

He flew into a storm with at least 34 US based Zimbabwean nationals waiting for him at the airport to protest over alleged gross human rights abuse and harbouring corrupt officials among other griviances.

People’s Patriotic Party (PPP) leader, Zvaringeni Samuel Chasi told local publication NewZimbabwe.com that they wanted to pounce on Mnangagwa at his residency and effect a citizen arrest.

It however appears to be a difficult feat following reports by NewZimbabwe.com that the president was under the watchful eye of more than 200 aides.

“We were about 34 people, local Zimbabweans and around 80 who joined online in solidarity. We are going to UNGA and his residency,” Chasi told NewZimbabwe.com Wednesday.

He added:
“The citizens have vowed they are going to do a citizen arrest on him. Everyone is going to be down on the ground here today and tomorrow. We are not going to stop. He might not go back to Zimbabwe. He is in trouble.

“The picketing was successfully done although he used a different exit from the one he was supposed to use.

“He arrived two hours earlier, he arrived nicodemously. It is said he had a security personnel of about 225 people. The protests are not yet over. Everyone is on him. He is on the run.”

Mnangagwa is on the ZIDERA travel ban but in this instance he has immunity from the United Nations. This gives him a chance to at least  breath  ‘fresh air’ of the New York City where “dreams are made of” with proper sewer systems and effective garbage collection – a different picture compared to service delivery in Harare.
