Mnangagwa congratulates Namibia’s president-elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah
Ironically, the defeated opposition went to town falsely accusing Zanu PF in participating in what they term 'electoral fraud'
Harare – President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday send a congratulatory message to Namibia’s president-elect, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, at a time when the main opposition candidate in the south western African country has said the election was ‘deeply flawed’.
In a case of sour grapes , the opposition leader and acolytes implicated Zanu PF in the unsubstantiated allegations of election fraud.
“Your victory is a reflection of the trust and confidence that the people of Namibia have in your leadership to safeguard the liberation heritage and bring about socio-economic transformation in Namibia,” said Mnangagwa who is the current chairperson of SADC.
“As you assume your new role, I am confident that the excellent relations between our two countries will continue to grow from strength to strength in the years ahead.”
Nandi-Ndaitwah is expected to be elected as Namibia’s first female president.
Nandi-Ndaitwah won 57 percent of the vote while opposition leader, Panduleni Itula got 26 %.
Itula has refused to accept the results saying the polls were deeply flawed.
Nandi-Ndaitwah who is married to Namibia’s former army chief, Epaphras Denga Ndaitwah, has been working as a senior government official for years.
Nandi-Ndaitwah’s win cements the ruling South West Africa People’s Party hold to power since independence in 1990.
