Meikles Hotel adopts ‘bucket system’ for guests
LUXURIOUS five star hotel Meikles has adopted the ‘bucket system’ and is offering guests with buckets of hot water to bath owing to inccesant power cuts that have hit the central business district since weekend.
The leading hotel’s generators have no capacity to power geysers, Express Mail Zim has learnt.
In a communique authored by the managing director Tinashe Munjoma Tuesday, the hotel advised guests that Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority was working around the clock to restore power since Saturday and the contingent plan was to use buckets to supply guests with hot water.
“Please be advised that the hotel has been operating on generator power since Saturday, June 11th, 2022, due to a fault that developed within the CBD. The Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority is working around the clock to try to fix the problem,” wrote Munjoma.
“Considering the above, the air conditioning in the rooms and public areas is not working, and there is no hot water. If you require hot water for bathing, please contact our housekeeping department on extension 82, and a bucket will be delivered to you. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused, “he added.
This development comes at a time where the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority is on a massive drive to market ‘Destination Zimbabwe’ and it’s embarrassing for tourists to be exposed to such a system at a top notch hotel.
The hotel is now under the ownership of ASB Hospitality (Zimbabwe) Private Limited, a subsidiary of the Dubai-based Albwardy Investment with links to the United Arab Emirates government.
This is however not the first time for a leading local hotel to adopt the ‘bucket system’, in 2010 Rainbow Towers also did the same forcing former Zimbabwe Tourism Authority boss Karikoga Kaseke to hastily move a visiting Jamaican music outfit from the hotel to save the face of the hospitality sector.
