Mberengwa East legislator Hungwe fingered in corruption storm
Mberengwa- ZANU PF legislator for Mberengwa East Tasara Hungwe is under -fire for misappropriation of funds amid allegations that he prejudiced the Mberengwa Rural District Council (RDC) of thousands of dollars, Express Mail Zim can report.
Allegations are that Hungwe, working in cahoots with RDC chief executive Thompson Maeresera, they would get payments for his company Speedlink Cargo but failed to deliver the service.
“Hungwe and Maeresera are working together to fleece the RDC at the expense of residents.
“In January 2023 a budget of $4.9 billion was approved but it was abused.
“Using devolution funds, they bought an obselete borehole drilling machine which never worked.
“I think this should stop ,” lamented a disgruntled resident.
Multiple sources contacted by Express Mail Zim in Mberengwa confirmed the alleged rot.
Maeresera is also accused of nepotism.
“He employed four of his close associates from Wedza where he used to work,” said our source.
Maeresera could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
Maeresera’s mobile phone was switched off while Hungwe fumed at the reporter.
“Why did you go to school if you can’t properly investigate.
“It’s a rumour and come to Mataga (growth point) and see what’s on the ground.
“If you do that then you can publish, I have no problem you are wasting time,”bellowed Hungwe.
