Makone replaced as Harare elects new mayor
Harare- THE Sunshine City has on Tuesday elected a new mayor who replaced recalled CCC councillor Ian Makone, Express Mail Zim can report.
The newly elected mayor Lovejoy Chitengu (Ward 36) garnerd 35 votes after two hours of resistance by ZANU PF councillors who wanted the elections aborted on basis that Chitengu was recalled by CCC interim secretary general hence not fit and proper to hold office.
Rosemary Muronda was elected deputy mayor.
Chitengu’s recall letter was mispelt putting the legality of his candidature questionable.
CCC councillor Blessing Duma was the interim chair of the special council meeting held at Town House Tuesday.
Favourite Jacob Mafume failed to make it as the chief policy maker of the capital city.
Lately, there has been a lot of drama within the CCC with Tshabangu wrecking havok and shredding the opposition movement.
The trade unionist is the self proclaimed interim secretary general of CCC and went to the extremes of claiming his share of the political parties kitty.
