Just In: Govt finally scraps wearing of face masks
Harare- CABINET has at long last resolved to abolish the wearing of face masks as part of Covid 19 prevention restrictions.
This however applies to those who have been vaccinated.
“Those who have been fully vaccinated are no longer mandated to wear masks in outdoor public. They have to carry their vaccination cards as evidence. In door public areas like indoor concerts etc, masks are mandatory,” read the Post Cabinet briefing statement .
This was a welcome move as Zimbabwe had become one of the only few countries in Sub Saharan Africa to abolish the wearing of face masks amid speculative reports that bigwigs had made huge orders of the product and would suffer financial losses.
The reports are given credence by the Draxgate scandal which claimed the scalp of Health minister Obadiah Moyo following allegations of inflating prices of masks and other Covid 19 PPEs.
South Africa scrapped the wearing of masks in June and the neighbouring country has been touted as the Zimbabwe government’s pacesetters ever since the outbreak of the Covid 19 outbreak.
