How mine gold heist: Vumbunu brothers dominate the wanted suspects list
Bulawayo- THE Vumbunu family is not very popular in the country but its visibility has been increased by some social deviants from the family tree.
Three brothers going by the last name Vumbunu dominates the list of 11 wanted suspects of the How Mine gold heist released by police Wednesday.
The notorious brothers are Elijah , Abraham and Tonderai Vumbunu whose alias is Nkosilathi Ximba.
The other eight suspects and persons of interest are Israel Zulu,David Sanyatwe,Jimmy Gonyane, Vincent Ishmael and Abbysinia Shuma, Mike,Kelvin and Chabikwa.
The suspects robbed a cash-in -transit vehicle on October 4 and made off with 11 kg of gold worth almost half a million.
The vehicle was waylaid in Dougsdale, about 20 km south of Bulawayo with the suspects armed with rifles.
So far three suspects were arrested , including two brothers making it two sets of different brothers in the gang of armed robbers.
According to a genealogy website, approximately 471 people bear the Vumbunu surname in Zimbabwe but these three have put the family’s name on the map- albeit for wrong reasons.
In the history of criminals in Zimbabwe, another notorious family is the Masendeke brothers who were led by Edgar- a strong ally of Steven Chidhumo.
The Masendeke family’s prowess in commiting crime was to what the Black brothers did on the tennis court.
