Heavy rains cause pile up of 10 cars along Harare-Bulawayo road

Harare- As Zimbabweans welcome the rains, the capital city of Harare is at the brink of a transportation crisis as torrential rains have descended upon the region causing road accidents.

The adverse weather conditions have resulted in a catastrophic chain of events, with the latest report indicating a 10-vehicle pile-up just after an area popularly known as PaMagetsi in the suburb of Kuwadzana.

Eyewitnesses at the scene have described chaotic pile up  as disastrous, involving 10 vehicles, including three buses, three trucks, and four smaller cars, colliding in a harrowing spectacle.

The incident has unfolded amid growing concerns about the safety of road travel in the face of the relentless rainstorm.

Expressmail Zim reporters on the ground have gathered first hand accounts from victims.

According to eyewitness reports, the rain has transformed the road into a treacherous path, making it exceptionally slippery and contributing to the multiple collisions. The aftermath of the crashes has left the affected stretch of road impassable, leading to a significant traffic blocking in the area.

“We have about 10 vehicles, including 3 buses, 3 trucks, and 4 small cars that have collided. The road is now experiencing heavy traffic, and the slippery conditions have contributed to this unfortunate incident,” stated one eyewitness.

Emergency services are currently on the scene, assessing the extent of the damage and attending to potential injuries. While there have been reports of injuries sustained in the collisions, the loss of lives is yet to be confirmed by authorities.

The accidents have prompted concerns on the state of the road infrastructure and the need for immediate measures to address the safety of motorists during adverse weather conditions. Authorities are urging drivers to exercise extreme caution and consider alternative routes if possible, as the rain continues to pose a threat to road safety.

As the rescue and recovery efforts unfold, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of road users during inclement weather. It also underscores the importance of proactive measures to enhance road safety and mitigate the risks associated with adverse weather conditions.
