Gutu man jailed four years for attempting to kill girlfriend

Beitbridge -A 22-year old Gutu man has been sentenced to four years in prison after being convicted of attempted murder,Express Mail Zim can report.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), NN Trymore Mbengo of Mudziwepasi Village, Chief Serima, Gutu has appeared before the Beitbridge Magistrates.

Mbengo had a misunderstanding with a female companion on the October 8 2024 in the wee hours of the morning at a house in Dulibadzimu.

The lady tried to restrain him but he drew out an okapi knife and stabbed her on the left side of the chest leading to her collapse.

After realising the grave crime he had committed, Mbengo tried to flee but was swiftly apprehended by an alert neighbour.

He was convicted and sentenced to four years, of which 30 months were suspended for five years.

He will spend an effective 18 months in prison.
