Grain Transporting Company Bokwest Nabbed for Drug Trafficking

Bokwest Company Caught Smuggling Marijuana Across Beitbridge Border

Harare – One of the renowned grain transporting companies, Bokwest, was caught off side after border control security intercepted their truck, which was found carrying 10 bags of marijuana concealed within a consignment of maize.

The truck was being driven by one Tafadzwa Kagande.

The discovery was made during routine scanning operations at the border, which revealed anomalies in the truck’s cargo. Upon closer inspection, officers found the marijuana bags hidden among the maize consignment. The exact weight of the confiscated drugs has not yet been disclosed.

Kagande has been detained by police, who are working to determine the origin and intended destination of the marijuana, as well as whether any additional parties were involved in the smuggling attempt.

The Beitbridge border post, a major transit point between Zimbabwe and South Africa, has seen increased vigilance in recent years as officials intensify efforts to combat cross-border smuggling.

The incident has raised concerns about the use of legitimate cargo, such as agricultural products, to disguise the transportation of illegal substances. Law enforcement agencies have reiterated their commitment to strengthening border security to prevent similar cases.
