Govt to construct 104 additional graves at Heroes Acre
Harare- CABINET has Tuesday instructed the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage to create an additional 104 graves at the National Heroes Acre which has experienced dwindling of space due to the massive spike in deaths and declaration of national heroes.
It was revealed that only 35 graves were left at the National Shrine which boasted of 195 graves on its establishment.
Four decades later, 161 graves have been utilised according to the Post Cabinet briefing conducted Tuesday.
“The spike in deaths of national heroes or those deemed to be such is highly likely to have prompted to create more graves for the gallant sons and daughters of the soil.
“Look at the trend in the past few months, we wake up to see the national flag on half mast and that signature Heroes song echoing on national radio and some of these national heroes are strangers to many,” said a political scientist who preferred anonymity.
Government also revealed that the Zimbabwe National Liberation Museum will be within the vicinity of the national shrine.
