Govt set to adopt Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet tech
Harare- Internet connectivity challenges in remote parts of the country are set to improve following reports that government is at advanced stages of making necessary regulatory approval to issue a licence to Starlink ,Express Mail Zim can report.
Through Potraz, government has finally seen the light on the inevitable need to adopt satellite technology that has since been adopted by other African countries in the region.
The application was made during the newly appointed Information minister Jenfan Muswere ‘s tenure as ICT minister and he confirmed Monday during his interface with senior editorial executives of privately owned media in Harare.
“Potraz is still making consultations but the application was submitted and I am sure it will be approved soon,” he said.
Starlink is owned by controversial United States billionaire Elon Musk.
It is the satellite internet venture of SpaceX. It has a fast-growing network of more than 4,000 satellites in low earth orbit.
It has since rolled out services in several African countries including Mauritius, Nigeria, Rwanda, Kenya, Mozambique, Reunion, Malawi and Zambia .
