Furore as parents, SDC clash over ‘missing’ US$10 000 at Ngezi High
Mhondoro- THERE is furore over US$10 000 that was allegedly misappropriated at Ngezi High School, Express Mail Zim can reveal.
The school is located in Mashonaland West within the vicinity of Mhondoro- Ngezi district.
The School Development Committee (SDC) leaders are alleged to have diverted funds that parents had paid as “appreciation gifts” for both teaching and non teaching staff as had been resolved on the last meeting.
This was meant to cushion the staffers .
However, the SDC working in cahoots with some senior teachers diverted the funds and shared the loot, it is alleged.
In leaked chats seen by Express Mail Zim this week, at least 400 learners paid and a figure of US$9400 was collected.
The SDC leadership then released the breakdown and how the money was purportedly disbursed.
According to the disbursement breakdown , teaching staff supposedly received US$7 000, administration staff received US$500, non teaching staff received US$1 500.
The figures were however disputed by parents and some staff members.
“Those figures are cooked, money was shared between SDC leaders and selected teachers .
“The non teaching staff got nothing as recorded in that fake breakdown of disbursements,” wrote an irate parents in one of the chats.
A non teaching staff member weighed in that there was something stinking and he was contemplating on resigning
” Makadii vabereki mafigures ayo akanyorwa it’s not true hakuna non teaching yakapuhwa mari vakapanana mateacher nechizivano neSDC, mari yainyorwa pagate nesecurity vakatora mari nekubvarura list raive mubhuku resecurity ndatenda mateacher kubva nhasi matoilet what ever problem yaitika mudzimba ngavagadzire vega maoko vanawo ndovashandi veNgezi kwete non teaching staff.(Those figures are cooked and if the toilets and ablution systems breakdown we will not repair, they also have hands).
” A few selected teachers were given money. What happened to the other funds,” said a non teaching staff member .
SDC leaders who we contacted since last week did not respond to messages on their mobile phones and some even blocked this reporter from both calls and messages.
The matter has not yet been reported to police to institute investigations as internal processes are still underway with parents calling for an urgent meeting.
Abuse of funds by SDC leaders in schools have been prevalent lately with a well orchestrated ‘cartel’ between leaders and school heads.
The rot goes further to irregular tenders being awarded to members of these ‘cartels ‘ and private schools are the worst affected.
