Fifa/cies university awards Zim journo Sabeta …Arsene Wenger honours her

UNITED KINGDOM based Zimbabwean journalist Chipo Sabeta has hogged the limelight after being awarded with the CIES international network award by the world footballing board, FIFA on Thursday.

The youthful scribe cum sports administrator raised the national flag and had the opportunity to meet legendary Arsene Wenger during the award ceremony held in Zurich,Switzerland.

CIES is an executive certificate in sports management by FIFA. Since 2010, with a view to encouraging original high-quality research and to lending new dynamics to the FIFA/CIES International University Network, CIES has awarded an annual Prize for the best group project presented in the framework of the FIFA/CIES International Programme in Sports Management.

The ecstatic Sabeta spoke to this Express Mail Zim from Zurich and she showered praises on all the people who have groomed her in her turbulent journey.

Said Sabeta:This is just an amazing moment and one of the most important scenes of my professional career.

” A big thank you to my superiors at Nelson Mandela University who mentored and supported me and my colleagues who had my back.”

 

She added: “Winning it as the best overall project at NMU was enough but I never anticipated that it was going to be the best project internationally (ie from 12 fifa/CIES universities across the world)

I really value and respect this honour from this glorious institution.”

 

She said it’s not an easy job to work in a male dominated industry where women are generally relegated to kitchen roles.

“I will definitely push myself to be a better version of my work,” she said.

 

Sabeta is an accomplished and passionate investigative journalist and Sports Administrator with journalism experience in features and sports writing for over a decade. She uses technology to help enhance the knowledge and understanding of complex media articles.

 

She has plied her trade with one of Zimbabwe’s biggest newspapers, The Sunday Mail.

 

To add to her decorated career, she also boasts of being one of the founding journalists for Zimbabwe’s first tabloid The H Metro where she rose through the ranks to become Senior Sports Reporter and won many individual awards in the cut throat sports reporting industry .

 

She became the first woman to be appointed on the board of TeamZimbabwe UK upon relocation to the UK.

 

She has evolved from being a sports journalist to a sports administrator after furthering her studies.

 

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Media Studies and a National Diploma in Mass Communication from Harare Polytechnic School of Journalism and LCCI Marketing certificate and recently the FIFA/CIES Executive Certificate in Sports Management.
