Ex-minister Mushohwe declared national hero

Harare- PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has Monday declared the late former minister Chris Mushohwe a national hero,Express Mail Zim can report.

The declaration was confirmed by Zanu PF politburo member Patrick Chinamasa who was given the onus to deliver the declaration letter to the Mushohwe family Monday night.

A passionate academic and holder of two doctorates, Mnangagwa described the late former minister as a man who had strong internal drive and insatiable urge to improve himself.

“Dr Mushohwe used his scarce time to study through distance education until he became a holder of two doctorates.

“This was an extraordinary feat for a man holding such sensitive and onerous positions.

“He was also instrumental in setting up educational Programmes for senior war veterans in Government, which was run from Zimbabwe House,” said Mnangagwa.

Adding:

“Later he played a pivotal role in ensuring greater access to education for able, yet disadvantaged Zimbabweans ,through the Presidential Scholarship programme.

The late Mushohwe held key positions and ministerial portfolios in the First Republic including Director of State Residences before being elevated to Transport minister and later moved to the Ministry of Information.

Mourners are gathered at Number 12 Nigels Lane, Colne Valley ,Borrowdale , Harare.
