Ex-Dynamos chair Chawonza accused of destabilisation attempts
Harare- HARARE giants Dynamos face fresh turmoil as accusations land at the feet of former Vice Chairman, Vincent Chawonza. Sources allege Chawonza is behind recent chaos at Rufaro Stadium and attempts to undermine the current executive committee.
Following a seemingly comfortable 2-0 lead at halftime last Thursday, a wave of disruption reportedly rocked Rufaro Stadium. Fans point the finger at Chawonza, claiming he sponsored the unrest with the intention to destabilize the club.
“Chawonza has been relentless in his pursuit of a return to the Dynamos executive,” said a fan claiming membership in the Mambara Chapter, a Dynamos supporters’ group. “He even lied to the Herald, saying the club approached him to rejoin.”
The fan further alleges Chawonza is bankrolling the Mambara Chapter to sow discord within the club. Disgruntled fans threaten to take matters into their own hands if Chawonza’s alleged interference continues.
More serious accusations involve player tampering. Whispers suggest Chawonza is paying certain players to underperform or feign injuries, aiming to cripple the current leadership and technical staff.
Reports also indicate Chawonza attempted to contact Dynamos majority shareholder, Bernard Marriott Lusengo, though these efforts were reportedly unsuccessful.
“He wants back in,” claims a security source, “but Mdara [Lusengo] still trusts [Coach] Genesis Mangombe and the current team.”
Chawonza did not respond to questions by the time of writing.
