Ecocash threatens Kashagi loan defaulters with legal action

Harare- Mobile financial services provider Ecocash has threatened legal action against defaulting clients who got loans via their Kashagi lending platform.
In a statement to clients this week ,Ecocash wrote:
“Dear Customer, your Kashagi loan is in arrears. Repay before 01/07/22 to avoid penalty fees, legal action & blacklisting (effective July).”
However , there has been an uproar from a section of clients who received the same threat without seeking any loan from the service provider.
“I was in critical position waiting for funds from my cousin to pay medical bills and my battery was almost dying only to receive a threat from Ecocash yet I transact everyday and have never borrowed,” said a client who preffered anonymity.
Upon realising their ‘blanket’ threat, Ecocash then revised their message to clients and categorically stated that the first ‘ threat’ of taking default clients to the cleaners was not meant for the ‘clean’ ones.
