Dembo reincarnate : Legend’s daughter Venenzia relives dad ‘s life in a birthday song
Harare: THE late Leonard Dembo’ s daughter Venenzia has thrown colours on her late Dad’s grave ahead of his posthumous forthcoming birthday celebrations,Express Mail Zim can report.
Fenny performed a rendition and remake of her late father’song titled Chinyemu which she christened ‘Colours’.
The song was produced by Tyfah Guni and directed and shot by the talismanic hands of Tinashe ‘Navygeta’ Navonika.
It was shot on location at Navy Records studios in Harare.
Fenny is the only daughter of the late Dembo and her brother Morgan was part of the cast.
“I met her at our home in Jo’burg last week.
“And she came through for us to make new music and shot the video of the song Colours (Chinyemu) , she is talented and I did not have any challenges doing the video shoot,”said Navygeta in an interview.
The video follows a podcast hosted by Tiann the tik tok phenomenal who is based in South Africa.
The late Dembo was born Kwangwarai Gwaindepi in Chivi Masvingo, to Sukai Pasipanodaya.
He grew up being catered for by his mother in the absence of a father who had left the family.
He went to on to attend different Primary schools in Buhera, Bulawayo and he finally completed his primary education at Chembira Primary School in Mbare.
From Chembira, he relocated to Bulawayo in search of employment.
He, however, relocated to Harare after 1980.
His two sons, Morgan Dembo and Tendai Dembo took it upon themselves to revive Dembo’s band, The Barura Express.
They however eventually parted ways.
In an interview, Fenny said his dad wanted a daughter hence the legendary song titled Venenzia.
He made history after his song Chitekete was played at Miss World in the early 90s where our very own Angeline Musasiwa came fourth.
Meanwhile, Navy Records established themselves at hit makers through working with various artistes including award winning Roki and regional collaborations.
