Abidjan:Ghana’s football association released a statement on Tuesday, confirming that Chris Hughton had been fired as coach following the team’s confirmed elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations.Find here with the statement:
“The Ghana Football Association wishes to announce that Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior national team with immediate effect. The Executive Council has also taken a decision to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars,” said a statement.
“The Ghana Football Association will in the coming days provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars,” it added.
In November, Ghana lost their World Cup qualifying match away to the tiny Comoros Islands. This set pressure for the 65-year-old former manager of Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United, who won four of his 13 games in charge.
Hughton, whose father was from Ghana, had been the team’s technical advisor during the World Cup in Qatar before taking over as coach in March.
