Corruption accused businessmen Mike Chimombe, Moses Mpofu caged, back in court tomorrow
The State argued that by the very fact that the duo came to court escorted by Zacc officers technically means they are under arrest and State wants to lead evidence from the investigating officers.
Harare- EMBATTLED businessmen Mike Chimombe (42) and Moses Mpofu (49) were remanded in custody Wednesday and expected to return to court Thursday afternoon,Express Mail Zim can report.
The businessmen were jointly accused of fraud as defined in Section 136of Criminal Law (codification and reform)Act: Chapter 9.23.
The two are accused of abusing funds from the Ministry of Lands and were paid USD40 million using a company called Blackdeck Livestock and Poultry Farming.
They abused the Presidential Goat Scheme and Zacc investigating officers H Chapwanya and C Zimunhu submitted to the State that they are in possession of Blackdeck bank statements and correspondences between the Ministry of Lands and Blackdeck.
Magistrate Marehwazvo Gofa ruled that they come back to court Thursday afternoon.
The corruption accused legal counsel argued that his clients came to the court from home and hence no basis for bail application in this instance.
