Corporate espionage: Econet ‘ playing games’ and throws InnBucks under the bus

Story by founding news editor Nigel Pfunde

Harare- Cold war!

In a seemingly Cold War between SIMBISA Brands mobile online payment platform InnBucks and Econet Zimbabwe, the Strive Masiyiwa founded telecoms company has thrown the Mike Fowler and Zed company under the bus, Express Mail Zim can reveal on authority.

Ivestigations by this publication established that EWZ wantonly bungled the system and shut out Innbucks for the past two days in a development that has inconvenienced users /consumers of same.

EWZ took advantage that Simbisa Brands uses their Unstructured Supplementary Serive Data (USSD) platform for transactions and they bungled it for their own financial benefit, it is alleged.

“InnBucks uses Econet USSD platform and these guys are playing games and want to fleece Simbisa and the general populace.

“I hope Strive (Masiyiwa) is not aware of this behaviour because I know he is very strict on corporate governance issues, ” said an inside source who is part of the founding fathers of one of the country ‘s first mobile services providers established in 1999 after the intervention of the late Vice President Joshua Nqabuko Nkomo.

“Econet is playing games with Simbisa because they use their (Econet) USSD platform which also works in tandem with Ecocash .

“So how is it possible that Ecocash is up and running via the same platform,” quipped our sources who preffered anonymity.

Innbucks is a Mobile Online Payment that was launched by fast food retail giant Simbisa Brands.

The platform allows customers to deposit US dollars of up to US$ 200 into their Innbucks accounts.

This can then be used to purchase from any of the Simbisa outlets nationwide, to redeem the cash, or send to anyone else registered with Innbucks.

Masiyiwa has not categorically states his political interests but information gathered by Express Mail Zim established that he wants to maintain his hegemony through political authority hence he has been fingered in alleged funding of certain advocacy outfits in the guise of corporate social responsibility.
