Clean Marondera Sets Pace ln Environmental Waste Management

Marondera- CLEAN Marondera,a non-governmental entity has set the pace in environmental waste management as evidenced by the milestones it has achieved since its establishment in 2013.

The brainchild of Elizabeth Gundu,Clean Marondera has managed to make positive impacts on the environmental management landscape in its hometown, and to spread its wings nationally.

The Clean Marondera initiative has gained recognition and has brought accolades to Gundu and her team.She had this to say about the birth of Clean Marondera:”Marondera used to be a clean town.Population growth had its adverse effects on the environment and waste management.l simply wanted to bring back the glorious days and revive the environment l used to know.”

Despite limited resources, Clean Marondera follows the principles:re-pair, re-use,re-cover and re-fuse,has managed to turn waste and assumed waste into valuable treasure.Wastes have been used to build dural walls,houses,gift bags and clothing,to name but a few.

Elizabeth currently has a voluntary permanent staff compliment of 25.

Clean Marondera has taken environmental awareness activities to the grassroots level by educating children and giving young ones the opportunity to play a part in saving the environment.

The Clean Marondera team also taken active roles during environmental awareness exhibitions and showcases products to highlight the endless opportunities which exist in proper environmental waste management.

Sources on environmental issues indicate that over two billion tonnes of solid municipal waste are produced globally every year.With a shocking expected increase of 70 percent if the world takes a passive role towards implementing measures to curb the situation.
