City Parking to conscientize motorists on parking by-laws

Harare- CITY Parking has vowed to intensify the conscientization of motorists and the general public on parking by-laws, Express Mail Zim can report.
This was revealed at a media stakeholders engagement meeting in Harare Wednesday where City Park authorities and a fruitful interface with journalists dissecting several issues to enable the improvement of service ahead of the new year.
“In terms of parking by-laws the City Park has two mandates that is to penalise those who do not pay parking charges and those who park for more hours than the stipulated time and fees.
” In terms of those who park accross road markings its the mandate of the City of Harare traffic police,” said City Park public relations manager Francis Mandaza.
He added that there are parking guidelines that call for compliance and motorists are urged to ensure compliance with parking by-laws to ensure order and smooth flow of traffic in the cities.
Temperemental parking marshals will be taken for anger management and re-orientation programmes.
There has been complains that some of the marshals are rude to motorists.
Early this year, City Parking embarked on road and parking bay markings in the Central Business District as part of the company’s efforts to spruce up road and parking infrastructure.
The exercise is being conducted in partnership with City of Harare department of works.
City Park authorities said to tame the traffic jungle there need of bay marking to improve transport flow and champion orderly parking.
City Parking also partnered with its sole shareholder Harare City Council on the refurbishment of Rufaro Stadium.
“It is flattery to be part of the success story but I should clarify that the scope of City Parking’s works covered the erection of brick-and-mortar perimeter wall, clad with a morden clear-view fence,30 small convenience shops ready for lease. Construction of car park that is now ready for use,paved with G blocks and well marked,”explained Mandaza.
Responding to a question on whether football fans will pay for parking on matchdays, he made it clear that they will have to pay.
“We are in business and we need revenue to maintain the car park in good state,” he said.
