Speaking during a media tour at the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society,Cimas Head of Clinical Services ,Dr Travolta Mushayamano revealed that the mobile clinic is going to be a key service to the rural communities which usually face challenges in accessing health facilities.
“As you are aware most of our population lives in the rural areas where it struggles to access better health facilities. So by having this mobile unit its going to be handy in improving access to these areas.
“We also have heard reports of citizens from our neighbouring countries accessing our health services here and that means through this mobile unit it can lead to medical tourism as they will flock to access it,”Dr Mushayamano said.
This was also echoed by Cimas Health Group Chief Executive Mr Vulindela Ndlovu.
“Using this mobile clinic will help us expand our efforts to deliver health care to less privileged societies as the mobile clinic will be used to cater for a wide range of healthcare needs, including preventive care, vaccinations, health education, and primary healthcare services,”he said.
Mr Ndlovu further noted that the mobile clinic will strengthen health service delivery in the country and achievement of the health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which include the delivery of interventions to reduce child mortality and maternal mortality.
According to Head of Marketing ,Mrs Tatenda Madzikanda the mobile unit was deployed in Mhondoro as a pilot outreach and the response was encouraging.
“The pilot mobile clinic outreach was in Mhondoro and it was quite encouraging. We now have plans to work on a schedule which will publish for the next outreach .The service is available to our Cimas card-holders and the members of the public on cash basis,”she said.
The mobile clinic is able to provide preventive care, vaccinations, health education, and primary healthcare services including dental care.
