Chiwawa shines in interviews for chamber secretary post
Harare:The search for a new chamber secretary for Harare City Council is now an easy task after the acting chamber secretary Mr Warren Chiwawa outshone four other interviewed candidates during interviews held today.
Mr Chiwawa who has been acting for the past three years on the position clearly outlined his vision at easy compared to his counterparts which were failing to articulate themselves on interviews live streamed.
Those interviewed are Mr Ernest Mushava, Ms Angeline Mudada, Ms Alice Zeure and Ms Charity Maunga.
Harare town clerk Engineer Hosiah Chisango led the interviews.
Speaking during the interview, Mr Chiwawa tipped to land the post said he believes is the right candidate for this post as he has seen it all.
“We are still safe in my hands. I have been in the chain of hierarchy for the city as senior legal officer, chief legal officer as head legal on an acting capacity and as chamber secretary on an acting capacity as well for a period in excess of three years we have done well.
“There was a time in 2021 when things had gone haywire, all the executives were hounded out of the organisation we managed to keep the organisation afloat,” he said.
Mr Chiwawa said they managed to consult from within and from outside ensuring that the organisation stayed afloat and when the suspended officials came back, they managed to work well.
“I have stablished good communication with my seniors, Government even the law enforcement agencies. I think everything now is ok in terms of corporate governance and the alliances I have forged for myself and the city,” he said
Having over 15 years experience as a legal practitioner three of which were in public governance in Government:
“I worked there as a senior law officer in charge of legal drafting. I drafted quite a lot of legislation both statutory instruments and actual Acts of Government notably drafting over 200 by-laws for local authorities including city of Harare while I was there.
From 2014 up to now I have also been involved in a lot of legal work for example by-laws, amendments, proceedings of council by-laws, anti-litter by-laws, hawkers bylaws to mention just a few I think I have the requisite knowledge now.
I have been involved in legal advice at both Government and city of Harare level. I believe I have done a lot in that regard in the sense that non of the advise I have given has resulted in adverse repercussions for the city.
The city had no substantive chamber secretary since its hostile exit with Mrs Josephine Ncube sometime in 2018 when Mr Charles Kandemiri took over in acting capacity.
He was suspended in 2021 on criminal abuse of office charges before Mr Warren Chiwawa took over up to date.
Mr Kandemiri has since been jailed effective six years in 2023 for criminal abuse of office involving selling the Mount Pleasant Golf Club and Golf Course.
