Chivayo’s Tanzania Trip Raises Eyebrows
Slammed for attending an energy summit with 'dirty hands' after the botched Gwanda solar project
Harare- CONTROVERSIAL businessman Wicknell Chivayo has hogged the limelight over his trip to Tanzania for the 2025 Energy Summit.
The bulky businessman is set to meet with global leaders and this has diverted attention on his troubled Gwanda Solar Project, which has left the country grappling with severe power shortages—sometimes enduring up to 18 hours of daily blackouts.
Chivayo is the director of Intratrek, a company he co-founded with the late Yusuf Ibrahim, has been widely criticized for abandoning the Gwanda Solar Project prematurely, leaving the nation’s energy crisis unresolved.
Critics said the visit to Tanzania is an attempt to salvage his tarnished reputation.
As Chivayo prepares to speak at the Energy Summit, the pressure is mounting to prove that he can deliver results. The nation, and the world, will be watching closely.
