Chitungwiza maid steals US$300 from employer
A 20-year- old Chitungwiza maid stole cash amounting to US$300 from her employer ,Express Mail Zim can report.
Keresenzia Goremusandu confessed to pilfering the money and claimed that she was ‘possessed’ .
“I am sorry,I don’t know what had gotten into me, please forgive me ,” she pleaded with her employer in a recorded confession video.
Circumstances are that the employer Noma Mugwegwe from Chitungwiza hired Keresenzia after recommendations from her sister twelve days ago.
She then noticed that she was missing money and confronted Keresenzia who denied ever laying her hands on the money
“At first she could not find US$100 and on the second occasion she also failed to locate US$200.
“Yesterday, she asked the girl to do her hair and after that she took a nap and left $40 in the pockets of her jacket and the girl pounced in it again,” explained a family friend Blessing Mutize .
On Saturday, Keresenzia suddenly asked for an off day and her employer Mugwegwe smelt a rat and gave her an errand to do before she leaves.
She then searched her room and found the loot neatly tucked in the maid’s skirt.
Sensing danger, the maid quickly sent a message to her Epworth based uncle and asked him to lie that he was waiting for ’round’ money that was in her possession.
However, upon confrontation by Mugwegwe she confessed to stealing the money.
In an interview with Express Mail Zim, the youthful maid said she stole the money because she assumed that her employer would not notice.
“She had a lot of money in her wallet so I thought she would not notice that is why I did not take it all at once.
“I regret what I did and I hope they do not take me to the police,” said Keresenzia.
She said she was a first time offender and claims to be a devout Seventh Day Adventist .
“I have never done this before.my last job was in Kwekwe where I worked for this coloured guy but he got broke and I went back home in Gokwe before getting a job here.I actually go to SDA,” she said.
Her crime can attract a lengthy jail term but Mugwegwe had not pressed charges at the time of writing.
Lately, there has been a spike in the number of cases where maids steal from their employers and there is need to exercise due diligence and checking track record before hiring a maid.
Some of the rogue maids have made headlines for abusing employer’s children and even giving robbers tip offs and how to circumvent security.
