Car dealership Mike Harris Toyota in corruption storm
Harare- LEADING car dealership Mike Harris Toyota is in the eye of a storm following revelations that they failed to deliver nine vehicles to the Ministry of Lands after receiving upfront payment
This was unearthed by acting auditor general in her latest report.
The vehicles in question form part of 74 vehicles ,procured for government ministries and commisions ,that had not been delivered at the time of audit.
Revelations are that the Veterinary Services Department, which falls under the Ministry of Lands, procured now motor vehicles at a total cost of ZW$266 509 040 from Mike Harris Toyota in February of 2022 and delivery was set to be done after signing of contract.
Three months down the line, no vehicles had been delivered to the Ministry, a clear violation of the Public Procurement and Disposal (Chapter 22:23)which requires the procuring entity to ensure that every procurement contract it enters into specifies the delivery date and place as stated in Section 78(2)(h).
In her submission, Kujinga said:
“This was caused by inadequate contract clauses that protect the ministry in cases of non-perfomance by suppliers and a lack of proper review of procurement contract.”
